Poetry: Embrace

He holds me,

Holds on tight while night presses against the window pane.

His arms envelope me in safety, my face buried in his chest.

Warmth washes over me, contentment like I’ve never felt.

I hold on tighter, neither one of us wanting to break apart.

I feel it in my heart,

A longing started long ago, when moonbeams were the only light.

When the stars collided, and the universe spun, we were here,

A millennium ago, a second in time, lovers on a far gone night.

Relaxing, I feel his heartbeat in his chest.

My breath catches, eyes close, night holding us both in her quiet solitude.

If time stopped,

If the world were to end,

We’d be where we were meant to be.

He sighs,

His lips press softly on the top of my head,

Pulling me closer,

Making two one, in the warm candle light.

Pulses beat in the night.

I can’t help but wonder,

How his lips would feel, pressed softly against mine,

His hands weaved in my hair,

His breath against my neck.

Silently I beg the night to never end, for darkness to hold us in her embrace.

He let’s go,

Sudden coldness washes over me,

Stealing the warmth away.

Returning my longing to the heavens, my contentment to the night.

It has to be this way,

Whispers on the dark wind.

Moments tattooed on my soul.

He smiles,

It doesn’t touch his eyes.

I turn, walking out the door into the once welcoming night,

Now it feels colder, empty, sadly still.

The warm glow inside the window pane,

Causes my tears to flow, unwelcome traitorous tears.

Regret my single fear.
